In 2005 Microgate has been committed by Keck Observatory to design and build the New Generation WaveFront Controller (NGWFC) for the Keck I and II telescopes.
The unit comprehends the full adaptive optics real-time processing from the acquisition of the Wavefront sensor CCD images to Slopes computation and Real Time Reconstruction.
The system is connected to a Scimeasure CCD controller for the wavefront sensor CCD and to a Microgate STRAP unit for the Natural Guide Star tip-tilt acquisition. On the output, it controls a Xinetics 349 actuators deformable mirror and two tip-tilt steering mirrors, one for the up-link (Laser Guide Star steering) and one for the down-link. The tip-tilt mirrors are actuated by piezoelectric units, controlled in closed loop by the Microgate HVC High Voltage control board.
The NGWFC comprehends also a powerful diagnostic system (TRS Telemetry Recorder/Server) capable of storing few nights of real time data streaming.
The two units have been delivered in 2006 and are running on the Keck I and II telescopes since 2007.
Currenty, Microgate is extending the NGWFC system capability by adding an interface to a novel, CCD-based Near-Infrared Titp-Tilt Sensor.
